Description: Akashic Books is looking for an unpaid, part-time publicity/marketing intern to work in our dynamic Brooklyn office. Interns work 10:30am to 5:30pm a minimum of three days a week, M-F.

Interns will work closely with the in-house publicist to execute publicity and marketing plans for current and forthcoming releases. Ideal candidates should be familiar with various social media platforms (including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, and Goodreads). Interns will be expected to perform research to update database contacts; follow up on select pitches to media; draw up social media campaigns optimized for multiple platforms (Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook); write pitch letters; conduct media outreach in advance of author events; generate publicity materials (flyers, posters) for events; maintain press kits and publicity materials for new titles; write original content for our website; and assist the in-house publicist with other day-to-day tasks. They will also be expected to collaborate with the editorial interns and execute daily mailings.
Length of Internship: Year-round by season; typically January – May (Spring), June – August (Summer), September – December (Fall). See below for application deadlines for each season.
Requirements: Strong attention to detail; excellent communication skills; ability to multitask and juggle multiple projects; strong research skills; familiarity with social media platforms.
Previous experience with book publicity and marketing is appreciated, but not required. Ideal candidates should have an interest in a wide range of literary genres, as they will be expected to promote literary fiction, mystery/noir, nonfiction, pop culture, and children's titles.

Payment: Unpaid; we can make arrangements for course credit where possible.
