|Description:||The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) seeks a 2016 spring intern to conduct editorial, communications, and administrative tasks for the quarterly Science & Diplomacy. The intern will finish the internship having gained experience working as part of a team on editorial processes and communications.
This position is full time (40 hours a week) and is anticipated to extend for a period of three to four months.
Major duties and responsibilities:
Assists with proofreading and copyediting
Assists with layout of pieces (using InDesign)
Assists with web postings (using Dreamweaver and Drupal)
Searches for and proposes appropriate photos for each piece
Assists with social media activities, such as drafting posts, editing images to share, etc.
Assists with communications activities
Conducts research on topics and trends in communications, publishing, and social media
Completes other administrative tasks and projects as assigned
Suggests and completes additional projects related to the intern’s interests and skills that can support the publication (e.g., film editing, student engagement, graphic design, etc.)
|Length of Internship:||3-4 months|
High school level training leading to a Diploma or GED
College-level course work in journalism, English, publishing, or graphic design preferred
Editing or publication experience preferred
Familiarity with InDesign, HTML, and Content Management Systems preferred
Familiarity with Microsoft Access is a plus
Strong attention to detail and deadlines
Ability to be flexible, manage a variety of tasks simultaneously, and work both independently and as part of a team
