Company Name: W. W. NORTON & COMPANY
Description: The Art Department at W. W. Norton & Company is seeking an intern for the Winter of 2014 to start immediately. Qualified candidates should be highly motivated with strong communication skills, the ability to manage several projects at the same time, and, most importantly, a demonstrated interest in publishing.

The art intern will gain exposure to all facets of book design and book production for both the trade hardcover and trade paperback departments. Responsibilities include: assisting the in-house designers and art directors, trafficking mechanicals to the editors and copyeditors, archiving files, making jpegs, scanning, assisting in preparing materials for presentations, some light designing, and working with production throughout the cover proofing process.
Length of Internship: 3 months, 20 hours per week
Requirements: Candidates should have excellent knowledge of graphic design softwares including InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and QuarkXpress.

Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a brown bag lunch program to meet with department heads throughout the company, and learn about all aspects of trade book publishing.

Interns at W. W. Norton are paid $8 per hour for a maximum of 20 hours per week for 3 months.
