Company Name: W. W. NORTON & COMPANY
Description: W. W. Norton, the largest and oldest publishing house owned wholly by its employees, is looking for a rising or current senior or recent graduate to intern in its Manuscript Editing Department, Digital Media Division, starting this September. This internship will give you the opportunity to work on digital versions of college textbooks—from learning the basics of proofreading and copyediting, to reviewing chapters and giving feedback, to exploring various stages of the digital media publishing process. It will also give you opportunities to work alongside project editors, developmental editors, and managing editors on college textbooks from a wide range of disciplines.
Length of Internship: 3 months, 20 hours per week
Requirements: Applicants should possess strong communication skills and be organized, detail-oriented, able to work independently in an office environment, and curious about emedia and publishing. Specific work hours are flexible, but interns typically work 3 days a week for a maximum of 20 hours per week for a total of 3 months. The hourly rate is $8.00.
Location: Our office is located in the heart of midtown, on Fifth Avenue, across from the New York Public Library and Bryant Park, and within two blocks from the Theater District and Times Square.
Payment: $8/hour
How To Apply For This Internship: If you are interested in this internship opportunity, please submit a cover letter, resume, and writing sample of approximately 500 words to Melissa Atkin (matkin@wwnorton.com). And, if you have any questions or concerns about finding housing or additional part-time work in the NYC area to supplement the internship, let us know in advance. Most of our interns, even from across the county, are surprised how easy it is to secure housing and part-time work in the city.
