Title: Publicity Assistant, Little, Brown Books for Young
Description: SUMMARY:
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers is seeking a highly-motivated Publicity Assistant to join our team. Our ideal candidate will have a strong interest in promoting children’s books for readers ages 0-18. The candidate should have an outcome-driven work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication skills, an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, knowledge of the media industry, and a reliable focus on details and deadlines. The Assistant will provide administrative and project support to the Publicity VP as well as the larger publicity department. After training, the Assistant will serve as a Publicist to authors and illustrators, managing their own individual book campaigns under the supervision of the VP. The position is client-facing, serving as liaison between the division and journalists, bookstores, and authors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative duties include: making travel arrangements for authors, reviewing & sorting incoming mail, distributing in-house materials, maintaining publicity databases, and managing billing for the department.
Organize and execute department media/reviewer mailings
Create weekly email recaps sharing media & event news
Support award submission process
Writing pitch letters and press materials
Brainstorming publicity campaign plans for children’s titles
Public speaking during company meetings, and outside meetings with media and event colleagues
Planning and executing author tours, festival, and bookstore appearances
Pitching and securing national and regional media for authors and illustrators
Serving as a main point of contact for author and illustrators
Requirements: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Internships or prior work experience in publishing, PR, media, or other related fields
Strong work ethic and ability to take initiative
Interest in PR and the children’s book publishing industry
Superior organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Superb verbal and written communication skills, and knowledge of the media
Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint

The compensation range for this position is $47,500. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
